Detroit: public misdirection in art
A growing downtown Detroit has been in the works for years now with new buildings being built as old ones are being redone. We can see such examples on Woodward. As nice as this is on our eyes the outlying areas continue to suffer along with the economy and the very important Detroit public school system. Art flourishes in the city through its music scenes that are underground to most of us, but to our overseas neighbors it's their aboveground delight. A delight in art work and culture has been covered up in Detroit. Due to local corporate advertising, Robert Wyland's painting of whales has been covered up by a Jeep advertisement in order to fund the redevelopment of the building. In a growing city this piece of art work has found itself hidden in order for progress to come about. While our history and culture is being hidden behind drapes, abandoned buildings like the Lafayette are hosting striking new art in it's windows. This last photo shows a painting of the late Detroit City Council woman Mary Ann Mahaffey. Through her years of service she was known for working for those who had less and struggled to keep afloat. Mahaffey's memorialized painting almost seems unjustified in such a spot but maybe someday it may find itself next to a painting of Wyland's uncovered whales. |

global. warming.
an inconvinent truth. if you thought about going to see the al gore movie you best get on your bike and get there... The movie is very informative and scared me a few times at the way in which this global fiasco is progressing.. Al lays out the facts and shows the warning signs that are infront of our face. Check it out, the film was a wake up call for me. http://www. climatecrisis .net |

short story of the day
"I Love you!!" says alex manogian... "you keep saying that and keep saying that" rebutted amanda "but every time i see you, you're busy smelling your hands and combing your hair into a loop." Alex quickly pulled his jittery fingers away from his nose and stuck them in his back pocket. "Well..." thought alex on how best to resolute this cituation that had become more common in the last month. "Well... I Love you more than my nose." silence fell upon their gazes for 23 seconds...until Amanda broke it with... "Well... i love you and your nose but it's driving me fucking nuts." they kissed and entered Alex's 1979 Cornado and went bowling. |

my new dj persona: avil for booking.... now
-DJ Shit Licker- that's right comming off his opening gig last night dj shit licker is ready to clear dance floors with his unique musical selections... if you'd rather not hear it the "licker" will most likely be bringing it to the party... bruce springstein, that koko moe song, and debbie gibson! remember the dance floor is always open when S.L.'s unique style and sultry baratone voice greets you from the moment you walk through the door. everyone has a such unique things to say about last night like jenny here... "wow, he fuckin' sucked." and kim... "i never knew hewy lewis and the news and dont worry be happy could be mixed together in such a shitty way. he keeps true to his dj name and that's something you dont necessarly have to respect but just reconise that it is in fact shitty." - the licker |

no subject here.
i quit drinking. i'm not sure what that means either. maybe for ever. maybe for a while. or maybe for a while and then in moderation. i'd like to quit for ever and then go to some sort of non-addictive non-distructive form of coke. read one book - buy three more. david sedaris - me talk pretty jonathan franzen - how to be alone elkhonon goldberg - the wisdom paradox i'm big on books with spirituality, science, and people who write about their screwed up lives. i've fallen into some real good books lately. today my eyes came across "the wisdom paradox" and a dream from years ago poped into my head. it created a mild deja-vu so i decided to look at it then buy it. The book seems to be a sciencey version of an intuition book i am reading. -a line from the wisdom paradox- "If our mental seeds are sown through curiosity and exploration early in youth, and experience in more mature life tends and nutures the mental crop, then wisdom is the harvest of mental rewards that we can only truly enjoy in what Frank Sinatra famously called 'the autumn of the years.'" |

v - day... what to expect
v - day : what to expect off to spend a very romantic heart felt valentines day at my parents house. i expect to find: my dad passed out on the couch watching episodes of gunsmoke he's already seen. when i go to change the channel he will grogerly say "no, dont change that i'm watching it... " ... again. mom will be in my old bedroom with the green shagg carpeting either watching american idol (if it's on) or QVC shop at home. the dogs will be running to the back door 7 times an hour to be let out. 3feet away from the back door where my dad sleeps he will yell out for me to let them out all 7 times provided my mom isn't on a QVC shopathon break. i will be in the front room watching the pistons, yelling, and getting up 7 times an hour to go to the back door. between this i will be randomly throwing balls through out the house for one dog to chase after while the other just sits there and stares at me saying "i've been sitting here for 8 minutes now can you scratch my stomach or what?" happy v day... i must go.. i'm late. |

ocd for the whole family
I've traded in sleeping during the normal hours for reading... I found an awesome genre of book: obsessive compulsive people who write about their obsessive compulsive lives. I’m sucked in and on my 3rd book in a week. These books are better than the time i tried coke twice. so far 'devil in the details' by Jennifer Traig has been the funniest. But I just started reading a pretty popular book by David Sedaris 'Naked'. It's just killing me the way he puts his OCD routines of light switch licking and forehead shoe tapping in such comedic light. I’m only on page 17 and it's shaping up to be one of the funniest books I’ll have read. 'Magical Thinking' by Augusten Burroughs get's an honorable mention. I worked with a guy who had OCD pretty bad. He had to be medicated because he would get so worked up and nervous about going into work that by the time he actually got there he was throwing up all over the place. Humm maybe he never heard of forehead shoe tapping to calm the nerves? |

skipped out of work a bit early today to catch john kerry down at my old school macomb community college. yes sir my alamer mader or what ever you call it... i call it the place where i got two college credits and failed the rest with honors. it was a fun night, the campus was absloutly packed with people trying to get into the gym to see kerry. they ended up opening a second bulding so that everyone could hear. the speach was alright. everyone was pretty pumped by it. I had pretty much heard all of it before so it was just nice to see it live. bon jovi did an acoustic set before kerry came out. i called my mom who had voted for bush a few days earlier. she's a big fan of mr jovi, so i let her take in some of it then said "that's enough for you, you bush supporter." then hung up on her. later i shared a half a stick of gum with a cute political kerry supporting female. in sort of related news: a guy from work is getting to know me a bit more and a few days ago said "you can afford a therapist right? well why dont you get one then." (_|_) go team! nov. 2nd election party at my place!! (_|_) Current Music: fu fu the foo man for two |
